Is your loved one pleased with the caregiver? Even though sometimes, people tend to be neurotically selective; in this case is better to err on the side of safety. Always listen to the patient first when it comes to the quality of the care being provided.
Are their quality of life and day-to-day markedly improved by the presence of the caregiver? This is easy to visualize and verbalize as well. Be observant and analytical in this respect.
Is your life (as a family caregiver) better by the mere presence of this person? This should be a resounding, beyond any reasonable doubt YES!
Is the care plan being followed to a T? A care plan is a mapped out strategy followed by a specific tactical approach to the daily care of your spouse or loved one. Changes to this plan must be discussed and approved beforehand. The caregiver must follow it word by word.
Is the caregiver reliable? We have 4 specific conditions to define reliability, they are: Do they arrive and leave on time? Are they properly dressed? Do they smile and are they pleasant? Do they perform a quality good job? If these 4 conditions are met they are usually a keeper!
Does the agency keep a close eye on their employees? The best agencies are totally high-strung and over-anxious about their employees, as they should be. When you send someone to a patient’s home the stakes are high. It takes years to build a good reputation and 5 minutes for a caregiver-dud to tarnish it. So keep an eye on how the agency manages the quality of their caregivers.
If you keep tabs on these 6 areas of care quality, you’ll be able to identify sooner than later who may work out or not. When it comes to caring for a loved one never settle for mediocrity or lack of passion on behalf of providers. Always reach for caregiver excellence in care. Demand it… embrace it!
