Managing expectations in any relationships is key for its long-term growth… wouldn’t you say?

It’s no different when it comes to your relationship with the healthcare facilities and organizations that you or your loved ones come in contact with.

So I want touch on a few topics of interest in reference to things you need to know when it comes to making sure you are putting your health in the best hands!

Especially at a time when everyone is so vulnerable to scams, fraud, and all sorts of identity theft issues.

Seniors however face a much larger risk than the rest of us. Perhaps because they tend to have their money mostly in cash and easily accessible…

But what may come as a surprise is that according to the The National Council on Aging (NCOA) it’s not always strangers who carry out these crimes…

…unfortunately OVER 90 PERCENT of all reported elder abuse and fraud is committed by an older person’s own family members, most often their adult children, followed by grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other people in close social proximity.

This isn’t your case of course… you probably don’t even know anyone that would do something like that!

Most children of elderly parents do genuinely look after their parents well being, and do so in an honest and overzealous manner (…which is the right mix… I think!)

Technically, doing a little bit of background checking on a company isn’t that difficult… and you can do most of it for FREE if you want to.

You can start with some low level, but very effective techniques…

First check out the company’s website, and see if they have any testimonials and recommendations from existing clients and family members.

After that… check out Social Media… go to Facebook and LinkedIn!

Check out their Facebook page for commentaries, more testimonials, and lively engagement… definitely keep your eye on negative comments, but remember that a few negative comments are always expected!

You shouldn’t judge a company by a few bad reviews any more than you would judge a book by a few 1-3 stars… that’s part of it!

Do look out for patterns though…

Bad reviews along the same line of issues,  like tardiness… lack of access to office personnel… and poor quality of service, are something to keep an eye on.

For individual players, check out their LinkedIn page if they have one… The company page as well.

Next… All Medicare licensed companies have their medicare reviews available for public access.

To get the nitty-gritty on a hospital, nursing home… or home health agency. Click on the links and check out anyone of them before, during, or after your stay or receive services from them from them.

Their profiles are broken down into general information, quality of patient care, and patient survey results.

If you are in need of services, in order to find a facility near you, Florida Health Finder’s facility/provider locator is the way to go. They have three easy ways to filter your searches, and the database is constantly being updated.
