How To Build a Caregiving Circle of Trust

Life in general, it’s all about team-work. But much more so when it comes to caregiving.

Time and time again, the more frustrated and stressed out family caregivers I’ve worked with have been those that are going it alone.

The first thing is to get your head in the right place. This right mindset is the holy grail of caregiving piece of mind.

So start with this thought ice breaker: You Don’t Have To Do it Alone!

Creating your own Ocean’s Eleven caregiving crew is the goal here.

oceans-eleven

A group of people of different skills and circumstances who can help you deal with the day to day of caregiving.

Here’s how:

  • Recruit one or two family members (preferably people who got your back!) that can help you take respite at least once a week.
  • Find a dedicated and caring social worker. Even if you have to go through a few to find the one!
  • Hire a home care agency that can help you with both skilled/non-skilled help.
  • Create a list of nearby businesses that focus on senior care or that can make your life easier on the different aspects.
  • Get a transport option you can count on.
  • Have your doctor-visit-day team ready and your day planned out.
  • Hire a Doctor who can make house visits.
  • Have at least one back-up person that can help in emergencies.
  • Connect with a travel agency that focuses on senior travel needs.

Depending on your circumstances you may not need all of these elements of your circle of trust team, but it’s a good start!

Major Discounts Florida Seniors Didn’t Know They Could Get

Florida Senior Discounts

When I began to build this list a few months ago I thought I was going to make out like a bandit. I mean this is Florida after all… We have to be the capital of senior discounts right!

Well I wasn’t wrong, but what I didn’t expect was how all-over-the place and unverified this information was.

So I changed my strategy…

Instead of sourcing and vetting the information myself, I focused on finding the sources that already had the information. Now all I had to do was to verify them and share the info with you!

It took some digging but I found an amazing resource for senior discounts on a variety of categories… all in one place!

  • Discount Prescription drugs
  • Discount groceries
  • Discount restaurants
  • Discount travel
  • Discount retail stores
  • Discount cell phone plans

I’m going to share it with you in a second, but first let me give you some brief advice and a quick disclaimer.

The advice is, get familiar with this website and all the goodies they offer. Sign up for their newsletter, it’s free! –Plus it’s always better to have good information come to you, than having to go get it.

Also, check out the comment section, there are all sorts of hidden pearls of wisdom in it.

But remember, the internet is the water cooler of the world, verify everything you read before you take any action. Even though this site’s editorial team is super competent, always do your homework.

The disclaimer is that we’re not affiliated in anyway with anyone we point you to. This one included.

We do the research plain and simple, and if we feel they’re a keeper we share it with you, our readers, patients, and families.

This approach helps us to stay impartial and focused on the raw value and practicality of these resources.

So here’s the link to the site. I broke it down for you by categories so you won’t spend any extra time figuring out where things are at.

Here you go!

Also, in case you haven’t already, don’t forget to check out our very own guide to in-home care services. Thirty three pages of pure gold nuggets on how to have your elderly parents properly cared for without going broke in the process.

I hope you find these resources useful.

We’d love to hear from you. Drop your comments below, your feedback is always welcomed!
